Anchors: Connecting with your First Mate

The Ship Inside Your Head has three main crew members: the rational Captain, the emotional First Mate, and the primal, reptilian Deckhand. In this series of videos, I’m going to show you how to connect to each of these three using the Pocket Anchors.

Connecting With Your First Mate

Your First Mate is the part of you that socialises, that is creative, that is passionate, that dreams, that has driven.

To connect to this part of your brains, pick up the token and hold it.

Your First Mate is all about imagination and what they imagine feels real to them. But holding it, feeling it, seeing the image helps you make it even more real.

So hold it, look at it and focus on the part of you that is dreaming, that wants things, that daydreams. The part of you who doesn’t care what is or isn’t possible, because in dreams, everything is possible. It’s almost childlike.

Now, from that point of view, ask yourself the question that was bugging you: Do I want this?

Oh, and your First Mate will know what you do or do not want, and whatever else you want.

They will give you all kinds of reasons why they want it or why they don’t want it. These will be very different arguments than your Deckhand or your Captain may make.

Your First Mate only interested in what you truly want and what you dream of.
